Predicting the Feed Intake of Cattle Based on Jaw Movement Using a Triaxial Accelerometer

The use of an accelerometer is considered as a promising method for the automatic measurement feeding behavior or feed intake cattle, with great significance in facilitating daily management. To address further need commercial use, efficient classification algorithm at low sample frequency needed to reduce amount recorded data increase battery life monitoring device, and high-precision model needs be developed predict on basis behavior. Accelerograms jaw movement 13 mid-lactating cows were collected during sampling 1 Hz three different positions: nasolabial levator muscle (P1), right masseter (P2), left lower lip (P3). A identification framework was recognize movements including ingesting, chewing ingesting–chewing through extreme gradient boosting (XGB) integrated hidden Markov solved by Viterbi (HMM–Viterbi).
